Over the past few years, social media has become increasingly more integrated with how we do business. For example, some businesses use social media for recruitment, while others use it for marketing or even managing projects. Boyd Coleman with Coleman Design Group uses social media for advertising purposes as well as keeping in touch with current clients.

Boyd actually booked a few projects via social media last year. He says that having a presence on social media today is a necessity for businesses. Some of the benefits associated with a business’s presence on social media include marketing, recruitment, and maintaining an active dialog with new and potential clients. Boyd warned that overuse of social media could also negatively impact the business as well. He recommended maintaining a consistent message throughout all media forms and not publishing posts overly often.

Additionally, managers must consider the time factor associated with maintaining a social media presence for your business. This could be overwhelming if you do not have a clear understanding how social media fits in your overall business scheme. Options include hiring a social media consultant or dedicating a set amount of time to manage postings and forums.
