188. Snøhetta   october 26, 2011

Today’s interview was a special treat for me personally.  I have been following the award winning firm Snøhetta for some time, and have slowly been transformed into a fan due to such innovative project solutions as the National Opera House in Oslo and more recently their National September 11th Memorial Museum Pavilion.  Today’s interview is with Mr. Craig Dykers, Senior Partner, Director and Architect with Snøhetta, and the lead designer for the 9/11 pavilion.

Snøhetta is an international architecture and landscape architecture practice originally founded in Oslo, Norway in 1989. Since its founding Snøhetta has garnered much acclaim for their innovative designs, and now operate from offices in Oslo and New York.

Mr. Dykers’ upcoming session is entitled “Snøhetta: Works” (Friday 10/14, 5-6pm).  His session brief tells us “Snøhetta has designed a wide range of cultural projects around the world, from the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt to the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo, Norway and the National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion in New York City. These designs are characterized by their intimacy and the way in which they invite the public to interact with and even appropriate them. Often developed to be agents of change, many of Snøhetta’s cultural projects have created platforms for significant positive change in the societies around them. The talk will acknowledge the fact that cultural projects in the public realm are not merely defined by their program or facade, instead they remain defined by the people who use them. Current Snøhetta projects in the U.S. include the expansion of the SFMOMA and the redesign of Times Square in New York City.”

This is the last interview scheduled for this year’s conference, and we want to thank you for tuning in, we hope that these have worked to pique your interest in PDC 2011.  Online registration is now closed, but you can still register onsite.

Next up: live blogging from the conference sessions!  Stay tuned!
